Before You Knew How To Love Me
As a teenager I had the privilege of attending youth camp in Washington. It was at that camp I heard and met a man by the name of Dr. Ted Hicks for the first time. Little did I know that years later I would have the honor of singing for him several times. Seldom have I met a man like Dr. Hicks. Quiet, compassionate, honest, blameless are just a few of the words I would use to describe this great man of God. “Before You Knew How to Love Me” is taken from a statement he made to his daughter Becky. I want to thank Phil Cross (Becky’s husband) for this fantastic song that is the title of this project. Thanks for allowing me the distinct privilege of recording this amazing song. Phil, I owe you big time!
Twenty- eight years ago I began singing Gospel music full-time. There was a song on the first record, tape, and yes even eight-track, called “Help Me.” Several people have asked about that song in the last few years. I am so delighted to be able to re-record it. In those early years I sang a song by Dallas Holm called “Rise Again” but I had never recorded it. After all these years and with a little persuasion from my mother, I decided to put it on this CD. I also need to say word of thanks to Ronnie Booth for making the use of his tracks for “Help Me”, “I Will Lift My Eyes”, “I Would”, “That Says It All” and “Steps” available.
We have so many friends who have really been struggling through some very hard trials. I am praying each song will speak to and encourage hearts that they are not alone as they bear the pains of this life.
In His service,
